An influential meet-up in the Turks and Caicos Islands
What happens when culture, history, and vision meet in one room? HACSA brought that answer to life in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The architect of this historic moment Ambassador Johanna Svanikier summed it up best:
“As usually happens at HACSA Conferences people left inspired and ready for action and the speakers enjoyed themselves as much as the participants. The feedback has been phenomenal and several people have already expressed their determination to be in Ghana for the 10th Anniversary HACSA Sankofa Summit in December.”
That energy defined the HACSA Sankofa Summit 2026 Diaspora Launch, which gathered leaders, creatives, and change-makers from across the African diaspora for a few days of real connection and shared purpose. Under the theme “One Continent, One People, One Destiny,” the Summit created a forum for honest conversations, shared experiences, and new possibilities. From the Caribbean came global cultural voices like Gramps Morgan, while stage and screen icons Hugh Quarshie and Clarke Peters brought depth, insight, and lived experience to the stage.
They were joined by professional, community and thought leaders, including Dr. Candice Williams, President of the Turks and Caicos Community College, Charles Sekyere an international financial advisor, Karima Ola, a private equity expert and Brianna Walcott a youth development professional. Each contributed to conversations on shared heritage, leadership, youth and opportunities for cultural exchange and investment.
The gathering which was organised in partnership with the Turks and Caicos Community College Alumni Association, was honoured by the presence of the Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Hon. Charles Washington Misick, who gave the keynote speech. Across the conference and the Charity Ball that followed, there was a clear sense of reconnection, pride, and opportunity. According to one participant, “People had a sense of not just attending a conference but connecting, sharing and building”.
As HACSA marks its 10th anniversary, the invitation is open to the global diaspora to gather again in Accra, Ghana this December to experience another unique and special moment like this. Be part of it!
